Intelligent software technology research and development for NASA and other federal agencies

Client:
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Location:
Moffat Field, California, USA

Project Details

The contracted company enabled intelligent software technology research and development for NASA and other federal government agencies. Their primary development areas included robotics, autonomous systems, advanced controls, advanced collaboration environments, mobile computing platforms, data understanding, systems health, and software engineering tools for verification and validation of software systems.

This cutting edge work included conducting scientific research, developing new technologies, building applications, and infusing and deploying advanced information systems technology. The goals of this work included improving productivity, adapting methods to other missions, preventing conditions that may interfere with normal system operations and addressing persistent NASA mission challenges, such as remote presence and limited resources.

Project Highlights

  • Supporting full lifecycle small-sat development for NASA Ames missions, such as LADEE, IRIS, BioSentinal and STPSat-5, which is a joint NASA/Air Force research laboratory program.

  • Conducting aeronautics research and software engineering to support development of a prototype system for management of unmanned aerial system (UAS) traffic that will safely enable large-scale small UAS (sUAS) operations in low-altitude airspace.

  • Applying Integrated System Health Management (ISHM) enabling technology to support fault management for NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) in support of crew safety and the launch abort system.

  • Developing and integrating new, enabling AI autonomous technologies for robotic exploration systems, including on-board rover autonomy and resource management, planetary surface rover development, applied computer vision, human-robot interaction, mobile manipulation, interactive 3D visualization, and robot software architectures.
